PLAINVIEW — Services for Katherine D. Wichman, 77, Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview. The Rev. Donna Runge will officiate with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the church. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. She died Monday, April 25, 2016, at her home. The daughter of Don and Laura (Mueller) Shoemaker was born April 21, 1939, at Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1957. She married John Schaefer in Plainview in 1960. Katherine worked at various places over the years in Plainview, Skogmos, J.C. Penney’s, Alderman’s Variety, Mauck Photography and Reed’s Furniture at Pierce. After she married Donald Wichman in Estes Park, Colo., in 1983, the couple lived in Colorado for 10 years before moving back to Norfolk. She enjoyed flowers, yard work and nature in general, collecting lighthouses, bears, reading and current events. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plainview. Survivors include her spouse, Donald Wichman of Norfolk; children Jayne and spouse Bob Scranton of Springfield, Mo., Terry and spouse Teri Schaefer of Omaha, Bob Schaefer of Lincoln, Trisha and spouse Eli Schmitz and Makena of Omaha; grandchildren Alex Scranton of Springfield, Mo., Philip and spouse Chelsea Schaefer and Harper of Des Moines, Iowa, Carson Schaefer of Lincoln and Kyle Scranton of Los Angeles, Calif.; her brothers, Melvin Shoemaker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Dale and spouse Vivian Shacklett of Norfolk; her sisters, Shirley Bailley of Bellevue, Diane and spouse Galen Anderson of Pierce; stepchildren: Marcia (Dave) Prahl of Torrington, Wyo., Diana (Randy) Novotny of Fairbury, Dean Wichman of Battle Creek, Steve (Donna) Wichman of Central City and Sue (Jerry) Paup of Central City; 17 stepgrandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don Shoemaker, and her stepfather and mother, Glen and Laura Shacklett; a stepson, Mike Wichman; and a nephew, Ronald Bailley. Music for the service will be provided by organist, Jan Krause. Congregational hymns will be “In The Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Soloist Alex Scranton will sing “On Eagle’s Wings.” Casketbearers will be Philip Schaefer, Carson Schaefer, Alex Scranton, Kyle Scranton and Aaron Anderson.
