Charlene Brauer

NORFOLK—Funeral service for Charlene Brauer, 95, of Norfolk, NE will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Chaplain Greg Prauner will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in the New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Charlene passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at her residence in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel of Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. Charlene (Dyer) Brauer was born on May 20, 1929 at Petersburg, NE to William Carl and Elma Iona (Bowman) Dyer. At age 3, the family moved to Atkinson, where she attended grade school. Charlene was baptized September 14, 1941 in Atkinson. In her 9th grade, the family moved to Norfolk. In high school, she played the clarinet in the band and did twirling. She worked at a dime store for $1 a day. Charlene and Richard Brauer were married September 14, 1946. They moved to a beautiful ranch north-west of Stuart, right along the Niobrara River. Charlene had four children before they had running water and electricity. She worked very hard putting three solid meals a day on the table for her family of ten and she baked every day. In 1973, Dick and Charlene bought a house in Norfolk. She worked at Delay 1st National Bank for 18 years in book-keeping and as a teller. Charlene is survived by her son Richard (Marilyn) Brauer of Norfolk, daughters Pat (Glen) Frickel of Sidney, Linda (Tom) Mundorf of Springview, Judy (Don) Schubauer of Valentine, Charla (Grant) Buldhaupt of Ankeny, IA, Margrete (Joel) Dirksen of Mason City, IA, daughters-in-law Deb Brauer of Norfolk and Sandy Brauer of Naper, sister-in-law Della Brauer of Norfolk, 34 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard of 60 years in 2006, sons Steve and Tom, her parents William and Elma Dyer, parents-in-law S.H. and Pauline Brauer, infant brother James Dyer, brothers-in-law Zeke Brauer, Albert Brauer, Norman Raasch, sisters-in-law Alice Brauer, Catherine Brauer, and Virginia Raasch.
