NORFOLK -- Services for Connie S. (Zessin) Peterson, 52, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Madison and Norfolk, will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Connie always loved dressing comfortably with fun and bright colors. As we celebrate Connie's life, her family asks that you also dress casually and colorfully, just as she would. Her favorite color was yellow. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Pastor Jim Carretto will be officiating the services. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Connie Peterson died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at The Taylor House in Des Moines, IA, following a long battle with breast cancer. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Connie Sue (Zessin) Peterson, daughter of Duane and Carol (Bals) Zessin, was born August 21, 1973, in Norfolk, NE. Connie attended Madison High School. Connie's first marriage was to Brett Powell, from which came two amazing and beautiful children, Justeen and Jacob. Connie then married Michael Peterson and moved to Des Moines, IA, where she continued working from home for First National Bank. She had a green thumb, liked gardening, and making her yard look pretty with flowers. Connie and Michael spent weekends in the summer in their boat on the water. They would also take rides on the motorcycle, occasionally heading up to Sturgis. She liked various outdoor activities, whether it was going to the gravel pit for barbecuing and swimming, or camping with family and friends. She was a lover of scary movies. Concerts were a big part of their lives. Her family was very important to her. She is survived by her husband, Michael Peterson; father, Duane Zessin; daughter, Justeen (Korbyn) Freeman; son, Jacob Powell; siblings, Chris (Randy) Matteo, Brian (Mandy) Zessin, Tonya (Rey) Zessin, and Kathy (Jerome) Ollendick; "bonus" children, Kole (Amber) Peterson, Aspen Peterson, and Evan Peterson, by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, as well as by her animals, Paige, Penny, Harley, Nova, Grey, Calie, and Millie.
