Darlene A. Flesner

NORFOLK – Funeral service for Darlene A. Flesner, 81, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2025 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Father Vincent Germace will be officiating the service. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Darlene passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, surrounded by family touching her as she left this Earth. Darlene Flesner was born on April 7th, 1944 in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Matthias and Agnes (Jazwiec), Ruppert Sr. She was baptized in Madison. Darlene attended grade school (where she was very proud to be picked first for recess activities) and graduated from Madison High School in 1962. After high school, she shared an apartment and worked at the Alpine Cafe as a waitress. Darlene always liked to dance and it was at Kings Ballroom, where she first saw her husband to be. He was spinning tires, and doing cookies in the parking lot. Later that night, they met at Riverside Dance Hall and the rest is history. Darlene married Alvin Walter Flesner on September 1st, 1965 at St Leonard's Catholic church in Madison. To this union they had 6 children. While raising their children, she worked from home doing an in-home child care for friends and family. Any child that came into her home was treated like her own. While taking care of children for the next 60 years, she also enjoyed some hobbies of her own. She enjoyed playing softball, listening to country music, gardening inside and out, singing in the Bound for Glory Church Choir. Her favorite daytime drama series was Days of Our Lives which she had watched or recorded since 1965. After 47 years of marriage, the love of her life passed away and she enjoyed going to live music concerts, even a Blake Shelton, one of her favorites. She enjoyed playing cards her whole life. She played sheep head when her family got together in the earlier years. Uno, Skippo, and highest card with the littles. Pitch at the V.F.W., the Senior Center, and playing solitaire in the quiet times. The Catholic faith was always an important part of her life and she was active in the Catholic Sisters. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and daycare children. She loved attending all the children's activities throughout the years. We will all miss her old school remedies, spontaneity, wisdom in child rearing, her vintage theories in wearing socks and the wonders of using Vicks Vapor Rub. We will miss our favorite dishes and desserts like her goulash, hamburger stew, cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. We will miss you more than you know and will love you always and forever! Darlene is survived by her children; Diane (Jim) Geist of Omaha, Darla (Rodney) Fullner of Omaha, Dawn (Lonnie) Alberts of Norfolk, Michelle (Jerid) Delp of Norfolk, Aaron (Ashley) Flesner of Kearney. 13 Grandchildren; Joshua, Makayla, Miranda, Korbin, Kalvin, Kelsie, Taylor, Kohl, Brennan, Michael, Jenna, Avery, Aubrey, 4 great-grandchildren, and step-grandson Dallis. Siblings; Delores (Denny) Hoffman of Plainview, Theresa Herchenbach of Norfolk, Matthias (Diana) Ruppert Jr. of Florida, James (Laura) Ruppert of Norfolk, and sisters-in-law Patricia Ruppert and Cindy Ruppert. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Flesner in 2013, son Mark Flesner, grandson Axton Flesner, siblings; Bernard Ruppert, LeRoy (Elaine) Ruppert and Francis Ruppert. Casket Bearers will be Michael Flesner, Brennan Fullner, Korbin Alberts, Kalvin Alberts, Kohl Delp and Dallis Smith.
