NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Diana K. James, 69, of Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tim DeFor. Burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Diana passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Diana was born on August 30, 1954 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Kenneth and Betty Ann (Skiff) Mueller. She attended Washington Elementary in Norfolk, Norfolk Junior High, then graduated from Norfolk Senior High in 1973. Diana married Robert Dale James on June 30, 1973 at First Christian Church in Norfolk. Diana worked at Leona’s Café for 22 years then Dudleys for 7 years in 1997. Diana was a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk and the Eagles Club in Norfolk. Some words to describe Diana…Strong, fearless, leader, defender of the weak, lover of people, lover of animals, caretaker, always wanting to be at peace with others. Survivor, compassionate, understanding other’s hardships, encouraging and cheering others on. Diana was the oldest of 8 siblings and was the leader of the whole Pack. She loved music and dancing with her family and was the queen of wipe out. Diana loved spending time with her family. As a child she grew up fishing, riding horses, going camping and dancing with her parents and family. After marrying Bob James, she continued to carry on these traditions with her husband and their two beautiful children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard. She also enjoyed pressing her luck at gambling and was a regular one arm bandit on the slots. Diana took after her mother in the kitchen and was an amazing cook. Recently Diana took on making scented flowers and sharing them with her family and friends. Diana loved her plants and flowers and loved spending time with her husband in the flower garden. Diana was a beautiful soul, loving others with all her heart. She was often was known to stand up for the underdog and would defend others. Diana was a caretaker, taking care of her parents, her children, and her nieces and nephews. She treated her entire family as if they were her own and would give them the shirt off her back if needed. Diana was a fighter and a survivor of a serious car wreck, and several serious cancer treatments and surgeries that limited her from doing some of the things she loved. Even though, through hard times, Diana kept her faith and hope for her future in heaven. Diana is survived by her spouse Bob James of Norfolk, son Kenney James of Norfolk, Tina James (Jamie Bedel) of Norfolk, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, siblings Denise (Chris) Clausen of Norfolk, Dawn (David) Schulz of Columbus, Kevin (Julie) Mueller of Norfolk, and Darla (Jim) Uttecht of Concord, North Carolina.
