NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Donald L. Cherington, 92, of Norfolk, will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Pastor Michael Moreno will be officiating the services. Interment will be held after the funeral luncheon at Prospect View Cemetery in Pierce. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Donald passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025 at the St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Donald Cherington was born on May 9, 1933 in Norfolk NE to Dale and Helen (Kuhrts) Cherington. He attended Norfolk Elementary and Junior High. After the 8th grade he began working to help support his family. Donald married Violet Andersen on June 6, 1953 at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. After married the couple lived in Norfolk where Donald began his career at Mid America Dairy. Donald worked there for 25 years before past injuries made him retire. Donald and Violet were on a bowling league that they did every Wednesday night. He also loved watching and listening to the husker sport teams play. He also enjoyed spending time fishing with friends and family. Donald never met a person he didn't feel comfortable talking to. He could make friends with just about everyone. Donald is survived by his children Cheryl Cherington of Myerstown, PA., Ron (Sheryl) Cherington of Lindell, TN., Rick (LeeAnn) Cherington of Yankton, SD., and Randy (Dianne) Cherington of Norfolk, 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 great- great- grandchildren, brother Lloyd (Lala) Cherington of Palmview, TX, brother-in-law Jim Butler of Norfolk, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Violet, sister-in-law Harriet Cherington, brother-in-law’s Waltmore (Florence) Andersen, Arthur Andersen, sister-in-law Junita (Jay) Adams, sister-in-law Shirley Butler, grandchildren Al and Jennifer, great-grandchildren Joseph Jr. and Delaney. Casket bearers will be Casey Cherington, Chad Cherington, Chris Cherington, Josh Cherington, Katie Pfeiffer, and Lashae Cherington. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Bethany Cox, Jennifer Weigley, Jenell Clutter, Amy Hurles, Adam Lindahl, Ashley Lindahl, and Jeremiah Brown.
