Elaine A. (Schwede) Marks

NORFOLK – Funeral service for Elaine A. (Schwede) Marks, 89, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Rev. Luther Zuberbier will be officiating the service. Interment will be held at the New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to the family for the NELS School and the Church Building Fund. Elaine passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Homestead Assisted Living in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel of Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. Elaine A. Marks was born on May 2, 1936 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Edwin and Irene (Johnston) Ellenberger. She grew up in Norfolk and was baptized on May 24, 1936 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk and was confirmed on May 14, 1950 also at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended grade school in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1954. On February 19, 1956 she married Darrel Schwede at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the couple later divorced. On February 28, 1981 she married Allan Marks at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Norfolk, they later divorced. Over the years she worked at Ellenberger Produce before bartending at the VFW, American Legion Post #16 and the 5th Street Bar in Norfolk. Elaine enjoyed her puzzles, watching Cornhusker Volleyball, reading, and especially loved spending time with her family. Elaine is survived by her children Sally Shively of Norfolk, Mark (Carolyn) Schwede of Lincoln, Jeff (Betty) Schwede of Manitowoc, WI, Shari (Steve) Johnson of Elkhorn, Sandy (Jeff) Martin of Albion, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sisters Phyllis Schutt of Norfolk, Carol (Duane) Palmer of Norfolk, Susan (Dale) Pohlman of Norfolk, Fran (Larry) Collyard of Waukesha, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands Darrel Schwede and Allan Marks, parents Edwin and Irene Ellenberger, two sisters Ruby Haase and Barbara Deitloff, 4 brothers-in-law, great-granddaughter Aubrey Joan, and one nephew. Casket bearers will be her grandsons; Alex Schwede, Daniel Schwede, Jared Schwede, Drew Shively, Brett Shively, Garrett Johnson, Tyson Martin, Dustin Martin, Jon Schwede and Adam Schwede. The honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters; Nicole Engstrom, Marissa Krogmann, Chelsea Busskohl along with her great-grandchildren.
