Grace E. (Gavit) Miller

NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Grace E. (Gavit) Miller, 78, of Omaha formerly of Pierce, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Prospect View Cemetery, rural Pierce. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 1st, at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road, Omaha NE 68124 with family receiving friends from 5:30 pm to 7pm. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. Grace Elizabeth (Gavit) Miller, 78, of Omaha, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, on January 31, 1944. She grew up in various towns throughout Missouri, Kentucky, and Nebraska. Grace graduated from Pierce High School in 1961. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, receiving her BSN and MSN. Grace and Donald Gene Miller of Pierce, Nebraska, married on January 7, 1967. Grace dedicated her life to helping others. She started her career in nursing working in various hospitals as she, Don, and their kids moved across the states. Grace also had a career as a hospice nurse and finished her career as a Professor for the College of St. Mary Nursing program. Grace had a tremendous impact on many, evident by the lifelong friendships she fostered. Grace enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, travel, and music in her spare time. Her time here with us was well spent caring for many and teaching many others how to care. Her life was proudly lived. Grace will be dearly missed and always remembered. Grace was preceded in death by her father, Richard Gavit; mother, Annie Lois Gavit; and sister, Rubye Jane Gavit. She is survived by her husband, Donald Miller; daughters, Cindy Sukhram (Vish) and Suzie Vogeler (Todd); son, Steven Miller (Laura); eleven grandchildren: Khem, Arun, Maya, Neela, Jessica (Dan), Matthew, (Scott), Torie, Brayden, Madisen, Christopher and Ellie; four great-grandchildren: Addelyn, Ryver, Krishna, and Kalin; sisters, Sue Nicholson and Sara Gavit; many other family and friends.
