Herbert H. Hilkemann

PIERCE -- Services for Herbert H. Hilkemann, 82, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery at Norfolk and the Rev. Gordon Bruce officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce. He died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Madison House in Norfolk. He was born Jan. 13, 1930, at Winside to Herman and Augusta Koll Hilkemann. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hadar, and confirmed April 2, 1944. He went to parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran School, Hadar, and for two years at District 72, Pierce, through the eighth grade. He married Twila M. Splittgerber Aug. 10, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce. After marriage they farmed 30 years southeast of Pierce. They then moved to an acreage along Highway 81. Herb worked for Barr and Sunderman feed yards for the 30 years until his health required his retirement. Herb was one of 11 children. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce, and served as an elder and on the Zion School Board. He was a retired farmer. Survivors are his wife, Twila Hilkemann of Norfolk; two children, Connie and husband Darrell Simmonds, O'Fallon, Mo., and Gary and wife Roxie Hilkemann, Pierce; six grandchildren, Kelsey Simmonds, Kailey Simmonds, Tyler and Kayla Hilkemann, Cassie Hilkemann, Cody Hilkemann; great-grandson Blayze Meyer; two stepgrandchildren, Lauren Simmonds and D.J. Simmonds and wife; three sisters, Ella Bohn of Norfolk, Hilda Knapp of Madison, Gladys and husband Alvin Spreeman of Norfolk; four brothers, Fred and wife Ruth Hilkemann of Lincoln, Paul Hilkemann Sr. of Pierce, Ed Hilkemann of Norfolk and Walter and wife Clydine Hilkemann of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Augusta Hilkemann; one brother, Herman Hilkemann; three sisters: an infant twin sister, Helen Amend and Dorothy Thompson. Organist will be Dottie Ahlers congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "Jesus Savior Pilot Me". Casket Bearers Larry Hilkemann, Paul Hilkemann, Mark Hilkemann, Darrell Bohn, Doug Rumsey, Ron Nykodym, Glenn Spreeman, Brian Knapp. Honorary Casket Bearers Kelsey Simmonds, Kailey Simmonds, Tyler Hilkemann, Kayla Hilkemann, Cassie Hilkemann, Cody Hilkemann, Blayze Meyer.
