James "Jim" H. Broekemeier

OSMOND -- Funeral service for James "Jim" Harold Broekemeier, age 95, of Osmond, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Rev. Brian Tuma will be officiating the service. Interment will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Osmond. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, also at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Hour Ministries and Lutheran High School. Jim passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family at the Osmond General Hospital in Osmond. Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Osmond is in charge of the arrangements. Jim was born on July 30, 1930, in Osmond, Nebraska, to Emil and Esther (Dewey) Broekemeier. He was baptized on September 7, 1930, by Pastor Erich Holstein and later confirmed in his Christian faith on April 18, 1943. Jim attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Osmond Community School. On September 11, 1951, Jim married the love of his life, Margaret Behrens, in Plainview, Nebraska. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. They were lifelong members of Immanuel Lutheran Church and spent their married years in the Osmond area. In 1965, they moved into the Broekemeier family homestead, where many cherished memories were made. Jim dedicated much of his life to farming and worked the land until retiring in 1986. Never one to sit still, he began a second career with West-Hodson Lumber Yard, where he delivered lumber and became a familiar and friendly face throughout the community. His dedication, strong work ethic, and positive attitude earned him the distinction of Employee of the Year. Jim continued working there for nearly 40 years before retiring at the remarkable age of 80. A man of deep faith and service, Jim devoted countless hours to his church and community. He taught Sunday School, served as a church elder, and was a member of the church board. He also served on the Milk Delegation Board and was a dedicated 4-H leader, helping to mentor and guide younger generations. Jim will be remembered for his warm smile, often accompanied by a mischievous smirk that hinted at some playful shenanigans. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, watching wildlife, completing puzzles, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Jim treasured time spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His kindness, humor, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Grateful for having shared his life are his beloved wife of nearly 75 years, Margaret (Behrens) Broekemeier; children Susan (Timothy) Lenhoff of Randolph, Nebraska, Nyla (Dave) Jurrens of White, South Dakota, and Larry (Colette) Broekemeier of Yankton, South Dakota; daughter-in-law Deb Broekemeier of Osmond, Nebraska; son-in-law Joe Rumsey of Brunswick, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Barbara (Marvin) Theis of Creighton, Nebraska, Judy (Gary) Acklie of Yankton, South Dakota, and Rosie Jenkins of Gadsden, AL; sisters-in-law Kathleen Broekemeier of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Lois Broekemeier of Ainsworth, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Esther Broekemeier; infant sister Georgina; brothers Gerald Broekemeier, Glen Broekemeier, Donald Broekemeier, Byron Broekemeier, and Orville Broekemeier; sisters Marian Block and Phyllis Rodgers; son James Broekemeier; daughter Sharon Rumsey; grandchildren Mindy Lenhoff, Regina Lenhoff, and Baby Boy Broekemeier; and great-grandson Sean Blom. Jim's family finds comfort in the promises of his Savior and rejoices in the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
