James A. "Jim" Omer

NORFOLK — Services for Jim A. Omer, 59, of Norfolk will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in the Fullerton Cemetery at Fullerton. Military rites will be by Fred Philbrick American Legion Post 151 of Fullerton. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. He died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at Madison Countryside Home in Madison. The son of Vernon Clayton and Donnis (Johnson) Omer was born Jan. 7, 1956, at Valentine. He attended kindergarten through second grade at Valentine school and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1974. He served in the U.S. Marines from July 9, 1974, to July 8, 1976. He married Tammy Harris on Sept. 22, 1979, at First Methodist Church in Ainsworth. After marriage, they lived at Ainsworth for 10 years. James worked and managed the Tri-County Tire. James moved to Norfolk in 1986 and worked for Bill Tichota Body Shop. In 1987, James managed Avenue Muffler for Bill until 2010 when they purchased it. In May 2015, James sold the business. James loved small game hunting, mowing, snow business along with his Omer construction business and enjoyed walking his dog, Keely. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Norfolk and the Vietnam Veterans Organization. Survivors include his spouse, Tammy Omer of Norfolk; his daughters, Emily and spouse Zach Winterwood of Omaha, Jessica Omer of Bellevue and Stephanie Omer of Bellevue; two granddaughters, Talia and Elena; his mother, Donnis Omer of Norfolk; six siblings, Tom and spouse Marjorie Omer of Lincoln, Sandy and spouse Walt Wolfe of Ainsworth, Kent and spouse Melody Omer of Madison, Va., George “Dan” Omer of Lincoln, Robert and spouse Traci Omer of Lincoln, Rodney and spouse Tina Omer of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon C. Omer. Recorded music at the funeral will be “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” “Holes In The Floor Of Heaven” and “Daddy’s Hands.” Casketbearers will be Robert Omer, Tom Omer, Kent Omer, George Omer, Rodney Omer and Walt Wolfe. Honorary casketbearers will be Sky Omer, Tyler Omer, Austin Omer, Steve Harris, Nathan Kackmeister and William (Willie) Kackmeister.
