Janice "Jan" Koehler

PIERCE – Funeral service for Janice “Jan” Jean Koehler, 80, of Pierce will be held on Thursday July 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Reverend Jacob Tuma. Interment will be at Prospect View Cemetery in rural Pierce. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Janice passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Stonacek Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Janice Jean (Froehlich) was born in Madison County August 1, 1944 to Leon and Darlene (Klawonn) Froehlich. Janice was the oldest of five children: Janice (Froehlich Buss) Koehler, Joan (Froehlich) Klug, Jimmy Froehlich, Jacqueline (Froehlich) Bosn and Joyce (Froehlich) Krueger. Janice attended District 24 (Dederman school) in Madison County thru the 8th grade. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar. Janice attended Norfolk High School 1958-1960 and Pierce High School 1960-1962. She married Don Buss February 14, 1965 and became the mother of two children, Richard ‘Rick’ and Jennifer Buss. Don Buss passed away October 13, 1974. Janice married Donavon Koehler January 20, 1983. Throughout life Janice worked jobs at Reeds Furniture, Norfolk Daily News, Foster Manufacturing, Pierce County Treasurer’s office, Pierce County Extension office, Pierce County Attorney’s office, Marketeers, Nannies of Nebraska, Living Centers of America/Mariner Post Acute Network. Town and Country Insurance and Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Janice had been a Pierce Fire Auxiliary member and a Zion Lutheran school volunteer, a member of the Pierce Threshing Bee and Prospect View Cemetery Association. Janice’s hobbies include flowers, gardening, landscaping, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. She was proud to attend sports, band, choir and speech events with her children and grandchildren. Janice and Donavon enjoyed traveling together whether by motorcycle, car or motorhome, having traveled throughout the US including Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Canada and Mexico. Janice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband Donavon Koehler of Pierce, daughter Jennifer (Buss) Baumann and husband Jared of Pierce and their children Parker and Maiya of Lincoln. Step daughters Debra (Koehler) Zautke and husband Brian of Pierce, and their children Lindsay & Logan Spackman of Omaha, Meagan & Anthony Fehringer of Pierce and their children Aubrey, Ava and Emerson, Brooke and Tyler Schaecher of Pierce and their children Leah and Zoey; Step daughter Peggy (Koehler) Werts and husband Kevin, of Lincoln and their children Bryce and Jamie Werts of DuBois and their children Natalie, Olivia and Jack; and Blake Werts of Lincoln, siblings Joan (Tom) Klug of Norfolk, Jacqueline Bosn of Lincoln. Janice was preceded in death by first husband Don Buss, her son Rick Buss, her parents Leon and Darlene, sister Joyce Krueger, brother and sister in-law Jimmy and Rose Froehlich, brother in-law Don Bosn. Casket bearers will be Parker Baumann, Bryce Werts, Blake Werts, Logan Spackman, Anthony Fehringer, Tyler Schaecher.
