Joan M. Gansebom

OSMOND — Services for Joan M. Brummond Gansebom, 78, of Osmond will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. The Rev. Gary Trowbridge and Vicar Glen Emery of Osmond will officiate with burial in the Osmond Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation at the church will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Osmond is in charge of the arrangements. She died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Osmond General Hospital. Joan M. (Brummond) Gansebom was born to Ed and Frieda (Schuettler) Brummond on May 12, 1936, on the farm near McLean. Joan was baptized on May 31, 1936, and confirmed April 2, 1950, by Rev. Wieting. She attended rural grade school, Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Osmond High School in 1954. Joan graduated from Wayne State College in 1979 with a B.S. in education degree and from Concordia University in Seward with a Lutheran teacher’s degree in 1985. Joan married Delmer Gansebom on Feb. 10, 1957. To this union four children were born: Tim, Lori, Tom and Lisa. After 43 years of teaching, Joan will be remembered by many as an outstanding, caring teacher. She was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary and the 8/40 Madison Salon. Joan taught Sunday school and confirmation classes at Immanuel. She was a 4-H leader for 40 years and was awarded the Pierce County Hall of Fame Award in 2002 and the Outstanding Volunteer Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards in 1993. She also received an award for 57 years of continuous membership in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326. Survivors include her husband, Delmer Gansebom of Osmond; children Tim (Earleen) Gansebom of Norfolk, Lori (Todd) Neuhalfen of Norfolk, Tom (Mary) Gansebom of Norfolk, Lisa (Greg) Kralicek of Osmond; 11 grandchildren, Michaila and Ethan Gansebom of Norfolk, Chelsy Neuhalfen of Norfolk, Caleb Neuhalfen, who is currently serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, Derick Gansebom, who is currently serving in the National Guard in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Shelby ,Devon, and Celeste Gansebom of Norfolk and Cody, Cole and Curtis Kralicek of Osmond; two brothers, Don and Marilyn Brummond of Centennial, Colo., and Jim and Judy Brummond of Walton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Susan) Gansebom of Carrol, Keith Kenny of Norfolk, Don Bingham of Yankton, S.D., Joyce Gansebom of Norfolk; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Frieda (Schuettler) Brummond; father- and mother-in-law, August and Emma (Dralle) Gansebom; infant grandson Joshua Gansebom; sisters Arlene (Marlowe) Dobson and Dorothy Glissmann; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Dwaine and Betty Gansebom, Lloyd and Sally Gansebom, Lavern (Gansebom) Kenny and Elnor (Gansebom) Bingham. Pallbearers will be Caleb Neuhalfen, Cody Kralicek, Ethan Gansebom, Derick Gansebom, Devon Gansebom, Cole Kralicek and Curtis Kralicek. Honorary bearers will be Chelsy Neuhalfen, Michaila Gansebom, Shelby Gansebom and Celeste Gansebom. Music for the service will be provided by organist Lori Koehler, Norfolk Grace Lutheran’s Men’s Group and congregational singing. Hymns include “How Great Thou Art?” “Lift High the Cross,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “For All the Saints,” and “I’m but a Stranger Here.”
