Joan L. Sivers

NORFOLK – Funeral service for Joan Lorinda (McManigal) Sivers, 98, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Rev. Randy Rasmussen will be officiating the service. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Joan was called to her home in heaven on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Stanton Health Center. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Joan was born November 13, 1925 in Hamill, South Dakota to parents William Gifford McManigal and Blanche Myrthle (Ruid) McManigal. She was the 6th of 11 children. The family moved from South Dakota to Nebraska in 1930. After graduating from Creighton High School Joan moved to Omaha and worked for Carpenter Paper Company. Through a friend she met her future husband Ray Sivers. They were married August 1, 1947 in Newman Grove, Nebraska. They lived in Omaha before moving back to Newman Grove where Ray was a mechanic for International Harvester. They also lived in Osceola, Albion and settled in Norfolk. Joan was a housewife and mother until 1966 when she was one of the first to be hired when Dale Electronics opened in Norfolk. She was a finished goods clerk and retired in 1989 after 20 plus years at Dales. Ray and Joan enjoyed going to their grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. Joan liked to read and volunteer at St. John’s Lutheran Church by visiting shut-ins, helping with the church paper, and belonging to the ladies church circle. The couple enjoyed camping, going to Husker football games, delivering Meal on Wheels, volunteering for Good Neighbors and spending summer vacations visiting their daughter and family in North Carolina. Ray and Joan moved to The Madison House in 2019. Ray passed away on a November 1, 2021 after 74 years of marriage. Joan moved to the Stanton Health Center in July 2022. Joan is survived by her 3 children, Lorinda and husband Steen Richard of Lawndale, N C., Jolene and husband Gene Buss of Pierce, Ne and Steven and wife Dawn Sivers of Pierce, Ne, grandchildren are Amy Richard, Scott and Jackie Richard, Tom and Kari Buss, Tim and Beth Buss, Wendi Buss, Jessica Sivers and Brian Finn, and Neil and Jessica Sivers, great-grandchildren are Billy Barrett, Abigail Richard, Deacon Richard, Hailey Buss and Austin Bode, Tristen Buss, Morgen Buss, Tayler and Curtis Hinrichs, Amanda and Shawn Nielsen, Trey Buss and Hannah Sivers, great-great-grandchildren are Leo Hinrichs and Wren Nielsen, brother is Richard and wife June McManigal of Center, NE and sister Virginia Buerman of Creighton. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in November 2021, her parents Gifford and Blanche, her sisters and spouses, Geraldine and Elmer Holan, Lucille and Charles Bartling, Betty and Herb Suhr, her brothers and spouses, Gifford James (Bub), Maurice (Jack), William and Loraine, Phillip and Geraldine, Vernon and Charlotte, and brother-in-law Don Buerman. Casket bearers will be Tom Buss, Tim Buss, Neil Sivers, Scott Richard, Brian Finn, Curtis Hinrichs, Shawn Nielsen, Austin Bode, Trey Buss, Billy Barrett, Deacon Richard. Honorary casket bearers are Amy Richard, Wendi Buss, Kari Buss, Beth Buss, Jessica Sivers, Jessica Sivers, Abigail Richard, Hailey Buss, Tristen Buss, Morgen Buss, Hannah Sivers, Tayler Hinrichs, Amanda Nielsen, Leo Hinrichs, Wren Nielsen, and Jackie Richard.
