Robert "Bob" W. Sparr

MEADOW GROVE -- Memorial service for Robert "Bob" W. Sparr, 74 of Meadow Grove, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Mark Borchardt. There will be no burial held at this time. A celebration of life gathering will follow the service from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the old fire hall in Meadow Grove. Bob died on Friday, August 16, 2024 with family by his side at The Grace Space in Lincoln, NE. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Grace Space at 1740 Superior St., Lincoln, NE 68521. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Bob was born on January 30, 1950 in Meadow Grove, NE to Wayne and Annie (Halsey) Sparr. He attended several district schools around Meadow Grove as well as Meadow Grove Public School until his junior year. Bob graduated from Elkhorn Valley in 1968 after the school consolidation. After high school Bob worked for BC Manufacturing out of Battle Creek for a little while before working construction. Bob learned the construction trade to the point that he was able to build his own house. After a number of years in construction Bob was hired on at Goodyear where he worked for 32 years until his retirement. Bob was always keeping busy so retirement did not last long, he started working part time for Madison County and eventually for the City of Norfolk. Bob married Rita Lenser on August 30, 1984 in Meadow Grove where they joined two families together. He enjoyed hunting turkey, elk, deer, as well as fishing, golfing, and camping with family. Bob greatly loved his dogs and jokingly reminded his kids that his dogs came first. Bob was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk, as well as the Meadow Grove Village Board. Bob is survived by his wife Rita Sparr of Meadow Grove, children Chad (Kelly) Sparr of Lincoln, Jason (Kris) Sparr of Lincoln, Sheila (Mike) Duarte of Onawa, IA, Laura (Joe) Fink of Fargo, ND, Jena (Peter) Capewell of England, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren with two on the way, siblings Patti Payne of Meadow Grove, Donald Sparr of Meadow Grove, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Annie, brother Rodney, and brother-in-law Jim Payne. Honorary pall bearers will be Justin Warneke, Larry Tienken, John Humphrey, Mitch Nielsen, Marco Duarte, and Ron Woslager.
