Thomas "Tom" J. Huisman

NORFOLK -- Visitation for Thomas J. "Tom" Huisman, 73, of Leigh, NE, will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Private family burial will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Leigh Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska. Tom passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Heritage of Bel Air Nursing Home in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our Dad, Tom Huisman. Tom’s passion for his community was evident in the many roles he took on throughout his life. As a little league baseball coach in Leigh, he not only taught the game but also instilled the values of teamwork and sportsmanship in many young lives. His leadership in starting the Legion Baseball program further cemented his impact on the town, creating opportunities and building a love of baseball for many. For 13 years, Tom and Janice owned and managed the Leigh bowling alley, which was a place where friends gathered, stories were shared, and countless memories were made. During that same period and beyond, he also worked as a feed salesman in the area. His dedication to the community extended to serving on the Leigh Volunteer Rescue Unit for 25 years. Tom took a lot of pride in this role, feeling a deep sense of duty and camaraderie with his fellow unit members. Tom found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, bowling, and sharing a good story, often with each retelling becoming better with time. His positive demeanor and gift for conversation is something we will all remember him for. Some of the family's fondest memories were made on his boat, where Tom was happiest, surrounded by loved ones and the hope that any next cast could be a “Master Angler”. Tom is survived by his three sons and their spouses: Jason & Shari, Cody & Angie, and Drew & Aly. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Sandy, and two grandchildren, Maddux and Reese. Tom's warmth, humor, and commitment to his community will be dearly missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
