Valere M. "Val" Winter

NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Valere “Val” Milan Winter, 79, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Pastor Clark Jenkinson will be officiating. Interment will be held at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Funeral luncheon will be held following the burial. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 16, V.F.W. Post 1644, and the United States Army Honors Guard. In memory of Valere, family suggest memorials go to his granddaughter’s food pantry effort, Pine Pantry c/o the family; otherwise to the American Cancer Society. Val passed away February 10, 2024 at home in Norfolk in the loving care of his close friend and family. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Valere was born on December 4, 1944 in Norfolk to Arnold and Myrtle (Kruse) Winter. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School. Valere served in the United States Army Reserve. Val is survived by his son Todd (Vivien) Winter of Dallas and step-children Cindy (Dave) Morrow of Norfolk, Tom (Ruth) Kaspar of Sioux Falls and Jacki Loomis of Lincoln; close friend Sarah; brother Keith (Sylvia) Winter of Wahoo; sister Veryle Winter of Norfolk; sister-in-law JoAnn Winter of Norfolk; nieces, nephews and cousins. When it came to being a grandpa, Valere hit it out of the ball park! Left to cherish the memory of good times, lessons learned and the many times he fixed their problems are grandchildren: Timber, Aley, Marshall, Tallon, Emily, Abbey, Tori, Thomas and Keira and great-grandchildren: Alex, Tajia, Maddie, Jaxson, Andrew, Marek, Kenzik, Royal, Lennon, Axton, Hollyn, Blaze and Creed. Valere farmed with his dad and over the years drove charter buses, USPS Mail trucks, and worked for O.K. Implement. He retired from Ecolab. He excelled as a Softball League pitcher having once pitched a Perfect Game and was an excellent pool player. He appreciated a good horse, the New York Yankees, Husker sports of all kinds and hunting. He'd be happy to be remembered as a fisherman and fishing with family and friends were some of his best times. He was a rodeo fan and took his family on many trips to see some of the country's best rodeos. Valere was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, his brother Marlin, son-in-law Ed Loomis and his parents. Casket bearers will be Ryan Cristelli, Dustin Stralow, Marshall Vogel, Thomas Kaspar, Tallon Winter, and Tony Hasenpflug.
