Robert W. Schmidt

NORFOLK – Funeral service for Robert W. Schmidt, 66, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Reverend Terry Buol will be officiating the service. Interment will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023 also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #16, V.F.W. Post #1644, American Legion Riders, and the United States Army Honor Guard. Robert passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at his residence in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Robert was born on July 18, 1957 in Seward, Nebraska to Ralph and Phyllis (Burhoop) Schmidt. He attended High School in Stanton and Norfolk. Robert served in the United States Army from September 21, 1981 to May 1, 1986 and was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Germany for two tours, then also stationed at Fort Bolk, LA. After his honorable discharge he worked at Lindsay Manufacturing, Norfolk Contract Carriers, Strong Trucking, and North Land Trucking until his medical retirement. Robert married Brenda M. Workman on December 31, 1991 in Madison County. He enjoyed playing cards, riding his motorcycle, wood working, his dog Pepper and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and American Legion Riders. Survivors include his wife Brenda Schmidt of Norfolk, children Jill Robichaux, James (Elizabeth) Schmidt, Desiree Schmidt all of Omaha Ne, a very special aunt Jeanette Neumann from Colorado, step-children Dixie Board (Randy Ausdemore) of Norfolk, David Board (Lorri Drahota)Monroe LA, Lisa Board James of Norfolk, 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, brothers Gene (Lisa) Schmidt of Norfolk, Douglas (Karla) Schmidt of Stanton, and sister Beverly (Tom) Hurst of Seward, brothers-in-law Dexter Thrasher, Alan Thrasher of Ohio, sisters-in-law Linda Thrasher of Ohio, and Sue Armstrong in California. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Phyllis, grandmother Edna Schmidt, three brothers-in-law Ronnie Thrasher of Ohio, Frank Armstrong of California, Rodger Vasicek of Norfolk, son and daughter-in-law Jimmy (Shelly) Workman of Norfolk. Casket bearers will be David A. Board, David J. Board, Jeffrey Ronnfeldt Jr., Cody Workman, Travis Fleming, Kalin Thompson, Jordan Workman, Sean Board, and Dennis Prokopec.
