NORFOLK -- Memorial service for Betty J. Bernstrauch, 83, of Norfolk, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Marshal Hardy. Private family inurnment will take place on a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, prior to the service. Betty passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at her residence in Norfolk with family by her side. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Betty Hoover Bernstrauch, daughter of Delbert E. and Elnor R. (Lutz) Hoover was born March 17, 1940, in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Willard Bernstrauch on January 4, 1980, at the Episcopal Church in Norfolk. She dedicated over 14 years to Sherwood Medical producing and filling syringes. She later worked at the Norfolk Veterans Home. Later in life, she and Willy enjoyed helping work at Tielke Sandwiches where they got to bond with family and friends alike. Betty was a lifelong caregiver who was always there to lend a helping hand to take care of family members. Her care never wavered through the end of life for several family members. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cindy O’Connell of Lincoln, Kelly O’Connell of Norfolk, Jeff O’Connell of Norfolk, Joy (Mike) Tielke of Norfolk, Jill O’Connell of Norfolk and Bill (Lynn) Bernstrauch of Norfolk; grandchildren, Brandon Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Amanda (Eric) DePietro of Denver, CO, Riley Bernstrauch of Lincoln, Jamie (Cody) Meyer of Omaha, Kylie (Ryan) Hoff of Norfolk, Jase Kess of Omaha, Conrad (Melanie) Kess of Omaha, Ellie (Kyle) Pospisil of Brandon, SD, Willy Tielke of Norfolk, Emily (Jayden) Prauner of Norfolk, Libby (Blake) Moen of Norfolk, Hunter (Shyann) Halsey of Norfolk, Chace (Tiffany) Halsey of Madison, and Jacob O’Connell of Walnut Creek, CA, 15-great grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Ruth) Hoover of Omaha and Jim (Ronda) Hoover of Laurel; sister, Janis Cook of Omaha; and sister-in-law, Sharon Hoover of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Elnor; husband, Willy; brothers, Delbert “Dub” Hoover, Donavon “Jack” Hoover, Lynn Hoover and Lyle Hoover; sisters, Doris “Dode” Haire and Norma Jean Stueve; daughter-in-law, Sherri Bernstrauch; and grandson, Michael Tielke.
