Cherlyn E. Hillrichs

NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Cherlyn E. Hillrichs, 78, of Pierce formerly of Plainview, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Christ The Servant Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Rev. Cindy Cone. Burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Plainview. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until service time on Wednesday. Cherlyn passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk surrounded by her family. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Cherlyn was born on October 17, 1945 in Plainview to Walter and Naoma (Waterman) Krause. Cheryln was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, in rural Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1963 as salutatorian. Cherlyn then went to college at Nettelton Business College and graduated with honors. She met Richard at a family wedding where Cherlyn was the organist and Richard was the soloist. They were married on September 18, 1966 at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Plainview. After married, they lived in Akron for three years. The family moved to Plainview to a farm in February 1969. They lived there for ten years and then moved into Plainview. Cherlyn went back to work when the girls started school. She worked as a legal secretary for Curtis Law office in Plainview and later on for two different attorney offices in Norfolk. Cherlyn was a gifted pianist, and music was her life. When she was 8 years old she played the piano piece “Summer” on the television show Talent Sprouts. She played as a church organist since the 8th grade. Cherlyn taught piano lessons for many years as well as playing for weddings, funerals, cantatas, musicals and choirs. She enjoyed crocheting doilies and angels, but the angels were her labor of love and an angel ministry was born. She always enjoyed her puzzles, sewing, baking, gardening, canning and watching sunrises and sunsets. But above all her faith was the most important part of her life. Cherlyn was a member of Christ The Servant Lutheran Church, Norfolk, NE. Survivors include her husband Richard Hillrichs of Pierce, children Emilie (Rick) Prince of rural Pierce, Stephanie (Roger) Eichberger of rural Plainview, Patty (Tim) Knaak of Plainview, 10 grandchildren, Austin (Kellie) Harrison, Hunter (Amber) Harrison, Kaleb Eichberger, Karissa (Tanner) Pettitt, Keaton Eichberger, Kaiden Eichberger, Cooper Knaak, Tucker Knaak, Spencer Knaak, Gunnar Knaak, her siblings Susie Spoonhour of Eagle, CO, Jim (Jan) Krause of Plainview, Cindy (Jeff) Sawyer of Fremont, NE. Cherlyn was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Naoma Krause. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. The organist will be Marsha Burke.
