Edith M. Stalnaker

NORFOLK – Memorial service for Edith M. Stalnaker, 99, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the Community Bible Church in Norfolk. Rev. Arin Hess will be officiating the service. Inurnment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Saturday, also at the church. Edith accepted Christ as her Savior shortly after marriage and was welcomed to Heaven on her 99th Birthday on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Edith Marian (Piwenitzky) Stalnaker was born on December 20, 1925 in Stanton, Nebraska to William and Mary (Muller) Piwenitzky. She graduated from Hoskins High School in 1942. Edith would then take summer classes at Wayne State College which enabled her to teach in rural schools for five years. She married Maurice “Maurie” Stalnaker on June 11, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. They were blessed with three children, Joleen, Thomas, and Dean. Edith was a faithful member of Community Bible Church in Norfolk since 1962 and served in many areas at the church. She taught the nursery Sunday School class for over 50 years. Edith was active in the ladies’ group, serving as president and writing letters and greeting cards. She had the gift of hospitality and provided for missionaries, evangelists, and musical ensembles. She was an avid reader and wrote weekly letters. She is survived by her daughter Joleen Stalnaker of Norfolk, two grandchildren Kelly (Andrew) Hoag of Leesburg, Virginia, Major Alexander (Brandi) Stalnaker of Fredericksburg, Virginia, four great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, Isla, and Kenna, sister Mary Ann Soden of Doniphan, NE, sister Fern Erickson of Wayne, brother William (Pat) Piwenitzky of Lincoln, sister-in-law Sachiko Piwenitzky of Japan, and sister-in-law Joey Piwenitzky of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mary Piwenitzky, husband Maurie Stalnaker in 2016, sons Thomas Stalnaker in 2001 and Dean Stalnaker in 2023, brother Fred Piwenitzky in 2018, and brother Hans Piwenitzky in 2014.
