Gerald B. Reed

PIERCE -- Services for Gerald B. Reed, 74, of Pierce will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. The Rev. Gordon Bruce will officiate, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. He died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. He was born May 25, 1938, in Pierce County to Servatues and Elsie (Wieting) Reed. Gerald was baptized on June 2, 1938, and confirmed on April 6, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. He graduated from Pierce High School in 1957. On June 21, 1959, he and JoAnne Thompson were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. After high School, he started working at Henningsen Foods in Norfolk. He retired in 2003 after 45 years at Henningsen Foods. The couple moved to Pierce in 2002. They enjoyed taking many trips, traveling and camping with family and friends within the United States and abroad. Gerald enjoyed fishing, hunting trips, making doll and birdhouses, his model HO-scale toy train and the many special times with all of his family. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Reed of Pierce; three children, Connie and husband Dan Ziemer of Plainview, Kenneth and wife Denise Reed of Hoskins, and Byron and wife Sheila Reed of Pierce; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-laws Jerry and wife Delma Smith of Norfolk, Jack and wife Karen Thompson of Norfolk, and James and wife Carol Thompson of Norfolk, sisters-in-law Joyce and husband Ed Ferry of Norfolk, Juanita and husband Randy Holmes of Pierce, and Sharon Thompson and Jeannie Reed of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Servatues and Elsie; two brothers, Dale and LeRoy; grandson Mitch Ziemer and brother in-law Jesse Thompson, Organist will be Dottie Ahlers. Rick And Cheryl Higgins will sing "In The Garden." Congregational hymns will be "Old Rugged Cross" and "I'm But A Stranger Here." Casket bearers will be Jeremy Reed, Kyle Reed, Michael Ziemer, Jake Jensen, Mike Pick and Mathew Gnirk, with Amanda Reed, Ashley Jensen, Heather Gnirk, Kayla Reed and Michelle Hille as honorary casket bearers.
