MADISON -- Funeral service for Helen L. Finkral, 98, of Norfolk, formerly of Madison, will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison, NE. Pastor Caitlin Bentzinger will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 4-7:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison or the Westridge United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Helen passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Heritage of Bel Air Nursing Home in Norfolk, NE. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. Helen was born May 5th, 1927 to Ernest and Freda (Meyer) King on the King farm Northeast of Newman Grove, NE. She attended school district 29 and graduated from Newman Grove High School. She received normal training in high school where she then went on to teach in the rural schools upon graduating. Helen married James Finkral on December 11,1947. They lived on a farm west of Madison. She and Jim had two children, Mike and Patti (Zechmann). After her children were grown, Helen worked in the County Clerk’s office at the Madison County Court House. She worked there for 25 years. Jim and Helen moved to Madison in 1977. Helen was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in both Newman Grove and Madison. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in her 40's and walked closely with him every day of her life. She was active with the Women's Auxiliary and volunteered at Faith Regional Hospital and the American Legion. Helen moved to Norfolk after Jim passed away in 1995. She lived her entire life in Madison County. She enjoyed spending time in Lincoln with her daughter Patti, bus trips with her cousin Alta and visiting with all her friends and family, most recently cuddling her great great grandbabies. Creating memories and sharing laughter brought her great joy. She shared her love and generosity with many and was always making new friends. Helen enjoyed Husker Football and walking miles with her Madison neighbors. Besides the Lord, her family was the world to her and she loved every chance that family could be together. She was most certainly a strong prayer warrior for many. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life". Helen is survived by her two children: Mike (JaNell) Finkral of Norfolk, Patti (Dick) Zechmann of Lincoln. Three grandchildren: Wendy Russell of Lincoln, Andy (Alicia) Finkral of Breckenridge, MN and Kelli (Chace) Long of Lincoln. Seven great grandchildren: James Finkral, Riley Finkral, Treyson Russell, Haylie Russell, Reagan Long, Beckett Long, Kennedy Long. Two great great grandchildren: EJ and Hazel Finkral. She is proceeded in death by husband Jim Finkral. Her parents, Ernest and Freda King. Siblings: Pearl Thompson, Dale King, Duane King, and Everett King.
