Jolene F. Buss

PIERCE – Funeral service for Jolene Faye Buss, 73, of Pierce, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. Rev. Gordon Bruce and Vicar Wesley Johnson will be officiating the service. Interment will be at the Prospect View Cemetery, rural Pierce. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, also at the Zion Lutheran Church. Jolene passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 with her family at her side at her residence in Pierce. Stonacek Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Jolene was born on March 1, 1951 in Newman Grove to Raymond and Joan (McManigal) Sivers. She was the middle of 3 children. The family lived in Newman Grove, Osceola, Albion, and then settled in Norfolk in 1966. She graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1969 and received a diploma in secondary Science from Northeast Community College in Norfolk in 1970. She worked at News Printing Company from June, 1970 to February, 1972. She married Gene Buss on March 4, 1972 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk and their first home was south of Foster. The family moved to the home place when Gene’s folks moved into Pierce. She liked to read, square dance, and play Canasta. Jolene helped with all things farming. They milked cows, put up hay, had cow calves, and raised crops. Broilers were helped raised, gardens planted, mowing to do and raising 3 children. Gene and Jolene belonged to Zion Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, volunteered in the classes of her children, and supported her children and grandchildren in school events. She is survived by her husband Gene Buss of Pierce, her children Tom (Kari) Buss of Norfolk, Tim (Beth) Buss of Wisner, Wendi Buss of Norfolk, grandchildren Tayler (Curtis) Hinrichs, Amanda (Shawn) Nielsen, Hailey Buss (Austin Bode), Tristen Buss, Morgen Buss, Trey Buss, great-grandchildren Leo Hinrichs, Wren Nielsen, sister Lorinda (Steen) Richard of Lawndale, NC, and brother Steven (Dawn) Sivers of Pierce. She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Joan, in-laws Ray (Vivian) Buss, brother-in-law Robert and Don Buss. Casket bearers will be Curtis Hinrichs, Austin Bode, Trey Buss, Scott Stevens, Neil Sivers, John Pfeil, Jared Baumann, and Bill Herbolsheimer.
