Larry Dean Hoover

NORFOLK – Memorial service for Larry Dean Hoover, 78, formerly of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Rev. Ray Wilke will be officiating the service. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Larry was born to Delbert and Elnor (Lutz) Hoover on Jan. 28, 1947, in Norfolk. He was the ninth of 10 children. He passed unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at his home in Arizona at the age of 78. Larry attended District 87, Washington Elementary and Norfolk junior and senior high. He then married Ruth Ann Haight of Norfolk in 1965. They were blessed with three children. The years following, he worked as a meat cutter at Economy Foods, Thrifty Way and Romans Locker, to name a few. He then worked at Harding Glass Carpet and Flooring, along with his own Larry’s Carpet Service. He stayed with the glass business that took him to Dallas, Texas, for a short while and then to Omaha where he was a successful businessman. He was part owner of Quality Glass and Mirror where he focused on his relationships with his customers. He semi-retired in 2012. Larry gave 100% to provide for his family. It was important to him to pass on a good work ethic and to be respectful — thank yous were very important to him. For a short time, he raised cattle and pigs on his friend’s farm, which was his true passion. It was a good weekend activity that his children enjoyed doing with him. His number one love was his wife, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids. He had a big personality that brought joy to the room. He loved all of his family and friends so much and enjoyed having a good time. He was often the life of the party. There will never be another Larry Hoover. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Delbert and Elnor (Lutz) Hoover; parent in-laws Arden and Helen (Gardels) Haight; brothers Delbert (Dub) Hoover, Jack Hoover, Lynn Hoover and Lyle Hoover; sisters Norma Jean Stueve, Doris (Dode) Haire and Betty Bernstrauch; brothers-in-law Cal Stueve, Raymond Haire, Willard Berstrauch and Harlan Cook; sister-in-law Sharon Hoover; and great-great-grandson Everett Sell. He is survived by his loving family, Ruth (Haight) Hoover; three children and spouses, Kim Halsey, DelRae (Kelly) Stueckrath and Jason (Vicki) Hoover; six grandchildren and spouses, Crystal (Taylor) Smith, Ryan (Melissa) Halsey, Derek (Krista) Halsey, Eric (Shilo) Stueckrath, Melissa (Jason) Kasinger and David (Kami) Stueckrath; 14 great-grandchildren and spouses, Kennedy (Bryce) Sell, Skylar (Jacob) Byrd, Connor Maurer, Ella Smith, Cameron Smith, Cal Kasinger, Nolan Kasinger, Bennelle Halsey, Mavrik Halsey, Lucky Halsey, Memfis Halsey, Jada Stueckrath, Bo Stueckrath and Rowan Halsey; great-great-granddaughter Hazel Sell; brother Jim (Ronda) Hoover; and sister Jan Cook.
