NORFOLK – Funeral services for Loren Frederick Kesting, 68, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Pierce will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Pastor Greg Prauner will be officiating the services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Loren passed away on July 18, 2026 in Las Vegas, NV. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Loren was born on January 21, 1958, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to LaVerle and Florence Kesting. He grew up on the family farm in northeast Pierce, where he developed the strong work ethic and values that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Pierce High School in 1976 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1977. While serving his country, Loren continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1986. That same year, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. In 1992, he earned a Master of Science in Digital Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology. During his nearly 25-year military career, Loren served not only coast-to-coast domestically but also around the world, dedicating himself to his country with honor and integrity before retiring as a Major from the Air Force. His career was primarily centered around implementing and maintaining communication and information systems across the globe. Even after his official service time was over, Loren continued similar work but in the private sector with a variety of defense contractors. Following his retirement, Loren made his home in Las Vegas, where he enjoyed staying active and tackling projects around his house. He simply loved being outside, spending as much time as possible landscaping, fixing anything that needed attention, or going for one of his daily three-mile runs. If you had the opportunity to spend any time with him, it was common to see him reward himself with any and all bubbly water and a large handful, or even an entire bag, of Peanut M&Ms. He was a devoted member of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. His Christian faith was the foundation of his life, providing strength, guidance, and purpose throughout the years. Above all, Loren cherished his family. He is survived by his life partner, Pedro Candeias of Portugal; his children, Chris (Blair) Kesting, Kim Kesting (Bill Ernst), and Kyle (Virginia) Kesting; and his beloved grandchildren, Browen, Calyn, and Cade Kesting, Ellie Ernst, and Autumn and Hannah Kesting. He is also survived by his brother, Larry (Peggy) Kesting; his niece, Sarah Kesting; his nephews, Brian Kesting and Jeff Kesting; and Darla Kesting, the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and LaVerle Kesting, and his sisters, Janet Kesting and Barbara Thieben. Loren will be remembered for his steadfast faith, dedicated military service, love for his family, and willingness to lend a hand. He was loving, kind, protective, and dedicated. His quiet strength, integrity, and generous spirit touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
