Mary E. Pendergast

NORFOLK -- Private Family funeral service for Mary E. Pendergast, 87 of Norfolk, will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Father Brett Jamrog. Burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will take place 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with a rosary service starting at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations/memorials be made to the family for a later designation. Mary passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her residence in Norfolk with her family at her side. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Mary was born on September 21, 1936 in Omaha, NE to Maynard and Bertha Ann (Tichey) Howard. She attended grade school in Omaha then her family moved to Norfolk and continued grade school in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk Catholic. She then attended college at St. Mary’s and studied Home Economics which was useful raising her children. Mary married Arthur J. “Art” Pendergast Jr. on January 11, 1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. They were married for 60 years. Mary stayed home and raised her and Art’s 15 children. Mary enjoyed cooking, playing cards, hosting family gatherings, watching cooking shows, and being with her family. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Survivors include her daughters, Jean (Dean) Borer, Cheryl Pendergast, Mary Jo (Randy) Pickinpaugh, Susan (the late Tony) Battershaw, all of Norfolk, Dianne (Bob) Deininger of Arizona, Rita (Darius) Narizzano of New York, Lori (Craig) Milne of Center, Sara Pendergast of Norfolk; her sons, Jim Pendergast of Geneva, Tom Pendergast of Arizona, Kevin (Kelly) Pendergast of Norfolk, Mike Pendergast of Arizona, John (Sandy) Pendergast of Norfolk, Brian (Angie) Pendergast of South Dakota, Steve (Paula) Pendergast of Norfolk; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and sister Carol (Larry) Wheeler of Arizona. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Art Pendergast Jr. in 2018, her parents Maynard and Bertha Anna Howard, daughter Kathy Pendergast, son-in-law Tony Battershaw, and brother Mike Howard. Casket bearers will be Tre Alder, Mason Pendergast, Tony Pendergast, Dalton Pendergast, Zach Pendergast, Kyle Borer, Alex Milne, and Junior Aguilar.
