NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Mary J. Tiedgen, 94, of Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Rev. Burial will take place at the Union Cemetery, rural Battle Creek. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Mary passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Mary was born to Walter and Erna (Wendt) Rouse on April 22 1929 in Norfolk. She lived her entire life in and around the battle creek area except for few years in Tennessee. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1946. Mary married Robert “Bob” Tiedgen on February 20, 1950 and the couple lived south of Battle Creek for a few years then in 1954 they moved to a farm Northeast of Battle Creek where they both lived out their remaining years. The couple had 5 children, Mary worked side by side with her husband raising cattle, hogs, chickens, and also clerked his many auctions. Mary loved to be working outdoors, she always enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. Mary loved to dance as she always went in her younger years, and as well as in her golden years. Mary is survived by her children Fred (Dee) Tiedgen of Meadow Grove, Kathy (Russ) Whitmore of Norfolk, Bev Rath of Battle Creek, Karen Tiedgen of Battle Creek, Rob Tiedgen (friend Teresa) of Papillion, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-great-grandchildren, Mary’s sister-in-law Pat Rouse of Denver, and several nephews and nieces. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob of 65 years, parents Walter and Erna, brother Jim, and twin brothers in infancy. Casket Bearers will be Jeff Siebrandt, Tom Tiedgen, John Rath, Joshua Tiedgen, Jared Reed, Luke Winkelbauer. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Cleon Schwede, Larry Johnson, Jerry Kopejtka, and Dennis Wragge. Condolences may be expressed to the family on-line at www.stonacekfuneralchapel.com.
