Robert Lee Vogel

STANTON – Funeral service for Robert L. Vogel, 89, of Stanton, will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jim Carretto. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Robert passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at his residence in Stanton. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Robert Lee Vogel was born at Wisner, Nebraska on December 26, 1935 to Herman "Shorty" and Frieda (Willers) Vogel. He was baptized March 29, 1936 at Christ Lutheran Church, Wisner, NE and confirmed on May 14, 1950 at Christ Lutheran Church, Wisner, NE. He attended Cuming County Schools, and graduated from Wisner High School in 1953. He married Gloria Jean Schulz on October 11, 1953 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, NE. Robert was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, American Quarter Horse Association and past member of Nebraskaland Spinning Spokes. After high school graduation Robert farmed with his parents and after their death, he continued to farm purchasing a farm in northwest Stanton County where he raised black angus cattle, quarter horses, mules and sheep. During those years Robert was employed by Vulcraft, Norfolk Regional Center, Fore Quarters Cattle Co., Norfolk Livestock Sales and retired from Nucor Steel January, 1998 after 20 years of employment with the company. Robert graduated from Nebraska Farriers School, Inc., in 1974 and practiced corrective horse shoeing for several years. Robert farmed all his life and had a great love for animals, especially horses, mules and dogs. He enjoyed driving his team of mules and horseback riding on the trails in Wyoming and Colorado. Robert was very interested in old horse machinery. He participated in team penning’s and roping’s in the area. He enjoyed all horse related activities including roping events, rodeos, bull ridings and horse sales. Robert particularly liked to visit with his many friends. His family was his pride and joy and he enjoyed spending time with them and attending the activities they were involved in. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gloria of 72 adventurous years, two sons, J.D. (Rhonda) Vogel, Norfolk, NE and Lee Alan (Terry) Vogel, Gainesville TX and two daughters, Sheri Ann (Nolan) Heilman, Holstein, IA and Lori Beth (Doug) Retzlaff, Norfolk NE, ten grandchildren, Ryan Wagner, Stilwell, OK, Josh (Michelle) Vogel, Gretna, Aaron (Michelle) Wagner, Ida Grove, IA, Timber (Dustin Stralow) Lacy, Olathe, KS, Jessica (Justin) Siebrandt, Norfolk, Aley (Ryan) Cristelli, Oklahoma City, OK, Marshall Vogel, Lincoln, Matt and (Megan) Retzlaff, Norfolk, Justin (Laura) Vogel, Norfolk, and Jeremy and (Katie) Vogel, Elkhorn, NE. Nineteen great grandchildren: Tanna, Aubrey, Graham, Alex, Evelyn (Evie), Rees, Bella, Andrew, Paisley, McCoy, Wynn, Lainey, Lennon, Briar, Murphy, Wacey, Bryndl, Kyler and Quinn, sister JoAnn Malchow, Laurel, NE, two brothers-in-law, Robert (Ruby) Schulz and Michael (Lynell) Schulz of Norfolk. Five step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Several loved ones preceded Robert in death: his parents, Herman and Frieda; a granddaughter, Taylor Vogel; great grandson, Clancy Wagner and Baby Retzlaff; brother, Lester Vogel; Brother-in-law, Willard Malchow; Sister-in-law, Betty Vogel and grandparents Wm and Anna (Heinemann) Willers and John and Barbara (Lederer) Vogel, In-Laws Delbert and LaVanda Schulz.
