Sharon L. Gubbels

RANDOLPH — Funeral service for Sharon L. Gubbels, 86, Randolph, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph. Pastor Ty Woznek will be officiating the service with burial in the St. Frances Catholic Cemetery, Randolph. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph. Sharon was welcomed by the Lord into heaven on Monday, May 6, 2024, at her home in Randolph. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph is in charge of the arrangements. Her spirit lives on in her eight children; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and extended family of relation and friends. Sharon was a loving spouse, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. Sharon LaVoe Gubbels was born on Tuesday, December 7, 1937 in Magnet, NE to George and Astrid (Swanson) von Rentzell. Sharon’s early school years began in a country school then onto McLean school and finished at Randolph High. Sharon attended Wayne State College and from there went to Omaha for her first job. During her time in Omaha, she met the love of her life, Vernon Gubbels. After a brief courtship, they were married June 16th 1958. Vernon and Sharon moved to a farm north of Randolph and in 1968 they moved to a farm south of McLean. That is where they retired January 2001 in Randolph. Sharon enjoyed several hobbies which consisted of gardening, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, family history, a Husker Volleyball fan, and tending to her rock garden. Sharon’s love for sewing began with her eight children whom she sewed many clothes for. From there she went onto sew many formal wear clothing and did costumed tailoring. She always found time to decorate many delicious cakes for birthdays, weddings, and graduations. She was always busy. Sharon especially enjoyed visits from her eight children, her grandchildren, as well as her extended family and friends. Survivors include eight children Teresa Virgil of Weston, NE Tami (Larry) Wilhelm of Lincoln, NE, Lori Olson of Randolph, NE, Dan Gubbels of Lincoln, NE, Tim (Marci) Gubbels of Waverly, NE, Brad (Michelle) Gubbels of Highlands Ranch, CO, Becky (Doug) Nordhues of McLean, NE and Lisa (Mike) Herda of Cheyenne, WY; two sisters Sheryl von Rentzell Norfolk, NE; Sharise (Sid) Engel Norfolk, NE; and sisters-in-law: Diane von Rentzell Oklahoma, Nancy von Rentzell Osmond, NE; Marion (Jerry) Wingert Osmond, NE; and Norma Leu Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Gubbels on March 7, 2021, her parents George and Astrid von Rentzell, a brother Gary von Rentzell; sons-in-law Vernon Olson and Rick Virgil; and a great-grandson, Zayden Wichman. Pallbearers will be Sharon’s grandsons: Luke Virgil, Jake Virgil, Craig Lenhoff, Andrew Olson, Aaron Olson, Owen Gubbels, Rylan Gubbels, Derek Gubbels, Mason Nordhues, Devin Herda, and Michael Herda.
