MADISON – Memorial service for Shirley Ann Summers, 79 of Madison, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Pastor Caitlin Bentzinger. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery rural Madison. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service on Thursday. Shirley died on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Shirley was born August 15, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, to Otto and Adelyn (Severa) Schulz. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1964 and married Ronald Summers on December 13, 1964, at the United Methodist Church in Madison. Ronald preceded her in death I n 2013. Shirley and Ron lived in Norfolk, Ewing, and Madison. She worked various jobs before they purchased and operated the Ponderosa Bar for more than 15 years, where they made many lifelong friends. After selling the Ponderosa, Shirley owned and operated a laundromat and later worked at the local school and nursing home. She spent much of her life in service and caregiving roles. Shirley enjoyed antiques, cookbooks, and garage sales in search of “treasures.” She took great pride in her garden and flowers. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved helping whenever she could. Shirley is survived by her children, Dave Summers (Alayna Smith) of Orlando, Florida, and Denise Summers (Russ Kerner) of Lincoln, Nebraska; siblings Ray (Judy) Schulz of Atkinson, Nebraska, Shari (Cloyde) Louk of Weston, Missouri, Sandy (Allen) Hake of Creston, Nebraska, Rich (Julie) Schulz of Albion, Nebraska, Shar (Luke) Beiermann of Madison, Nebraska, and Sharilyn (James) Heller of Norfolk, Nebraska; Uncle Duffy (Shirley) Severa of Fremont, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, parents Otto and Adelyn, brother Bob Schulz, brother-in-law James Heller, and several aunts and uncles.
