Yvonne B. Akers

RANDOLPH -- Funeral service for Yvonne B. Akers, 95 of Platte Center formerly of Randolph, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2024 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph. Officiating the service will be Pastor Judy Carlson. Burial will take place at the Randolph City Cemetery, rural Randolph. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph. Yvonne passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at her residence in Platte Center with family by her side. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Yvonne was born on March 13, 1929 in Plainview, NE to Edward and Susie (Fosdick) Nissen. She attended grade school and high school in Plainview. Upon graduation Yvonne obtained a degree from the secretarial school in Omaha. After working for the FBI in Washington D.C., she returned to Nebraska to work for Tip Top Curler company in Omaha. Friends introduced her to her future husband John Akers who was home on leave from the United States Army. The couple married on April 26, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Randolph. During John’s profession in sales the family moved several times. The family finally settled in Randolph. Yvonne moved to Platte Center in 2012 to be closer to her daughter Cindy where she resided until her passing. Yvonne was a wife, mother, and home maker. Her favorite pastime was reading. Yvonne was a member of First United Methodist Church, Randolph Survivors include daughters; Denise Simons of Sioux City, IA., Cindy (Ted) Wemhoff of Platte Center, daughter-in-law Jodi Akers of Ashland, five grandsons; Christopher (Jessica), Patrick (Kayla), Travis (Tonia), Ricky (Karina), Rhace (Kendra), and eight great-grandchildren. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Susie, husband John, son Brian, son-in-law Bill Simons, brother Keith Nissen and his wife Delores, and numerous aunts and uncles. Casket bearers will be Christopher Simons, Patrick Simons, Travis Schuett, Ricky Schuett, Rhace Akers, and Randy Borst. Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.stonacekfuneralchapel.com.
